Mole National Park (in haiku form!)

I recently visited Mole, Ghana’s largest national park, with two friends.  I decided to share my experience 17 syllables at a time:

An 8-hour bus ride
To the town of Tamale
Awful Ghana films.

Overnight in town
A taxi ride to nowhere
Reports for work, sleep

5am wake up
Hoping for a charter bus
Luck is on our side

The bus overheats
Luck cannot last forever
Walk to nearest town

Fortune finds us twice
A taxi driver takes us
Where we want to go

Larabanga mosque
Is the oldest in Ghana
1421

When we reach Mole
A beautiful view awaits
From the escarpment

Watering holes and
Elephants are down below
While we eat our lunch

A jeep safari
Where you can sit on the roof
Look out for branches

Antelope abound
Warthogs, herons, and a croc
But the best is last

Four grand elephants
With our guide we leave the jeep
And walk up to them

It feels dangerous
But the wild sensation
Overwhelms the fear

Early next morning
Is the walking safari
Few beasts but good hike

A sick elephant
Stays in the watering hole
To protect its wounds

Breakfast comes after
Then we pay for everything
Quite inexpensive

We gather our things
As elephants go to bathe
Goodbye to Mole
